To ad lib means to be unrestrained, to improvise, to be spur-of-the-moment. No name could more adequately describe the
group—Ad*Lib. No musical genre defines them, no mold fits
them, and Ad*Lib shatters every preconceived idea of how a group should
look.
Driven to lift Him up, Ad*Lib, claims the best sounds of rhythm and blues, pop, hip-hop and jazz; there is more than a
hint of Broadway, classical and even a little country all of which are
used to transform Gospel and Contemporary Christian music today.
Ad*Lib members include: Felicia Roberson, Yvette Cates, Marsha Hancock, Yolanda
Rabun, Theresa Richmond and Bobby Caddell. The group's musical director is Brenda Hampden of Durham, North
Carolina and is also comprised of some of the most talented musicians in the South, including percussionist Brevan Hampden and saxophonist,
Barney Branch of Time Machine.
The voices of Ad*Lib bring a refreshing sound to inspirational music that entertains and touches
the hearts of listeners of all ages. With its unique story-telling style,
Ad*Lib sings about God's strength, love and promises through everyday songs. Ad*Lib will thrill your soul, captivate you with God's spirit, warm your heart
and stretch your mind.
The Ad*Lib philosophy: We sing at and for God's pleasure. Individually and as a group, we have His gifts, hear His voice, and hope
to share His love, unselfishly with others through song. Because we are connected to Christ, Christ can touch others through us.
The group first experienced God's mission for them to spread His word with their gifts while ministering in New Horizon Church, a non-denominational church in Durham, NC.
